Introduction
AccountsIQ's Non Financial Metrics let you create non financial metrics and relate them to your financial data via reports and dashboards. If your reporting needs are beyond the standard included reports and dashboards, our Reporting Team can create customised versions.
About Non Financial Metrics
If you are looking to scale your business, optimise operations, reduce costs, or enhance customer experience, then tracking and analysing non financial metrics can form a key part of your strategy. For example, tracking employee satisfaction metrics alongside financial results could highlight how workforce morale impacts productivity and revenue. Other metrics might include:
- Customer behavior such as loyalty.
- Employee behaviour such as training hours and engagement.
- Operational efficiency such as delivery times.
- Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, such as diversity, carbon footprint, or community impact.
Availability
Non financial metrics are available automatically on AIQ3 price plan or on legacy no price plan and can be enabled by your Practice Administrator.
If you are on AIQ1 or AIQ2 and are interested in upgrading, a link is provided in the product:
Custom Reporting
Requests forms for custom reporting and dashboards are available via the Help Hub or via the following link [link].

Set up Non Financial Metrics
To get started, you need to define the units of measurement, create the metrics you want to measure, and then map them to other system codes for meaningful reporting.
Go to Setup > Non Financial Metrics.
Step One: Add a new Metric Unit
Metric Units are used when formatting values on dashboards and reports. Standard units include Decimal Number, Whole Number, Percent but could also be Days, Months, Meters, Litres etc.
First define the units in which you want to record non financial statistics.
- Go to Setup > Metric Units.
- Enter a Code, Unit Type, Format, and Symbol.
- Click Save. Edit will be available to update any details. The Delete icon will be available for unused codes only.
Step Two: Metric Details
Next, create the metrics that you want to measure. There is no restriction on the Number of Metrics that can be added.
- Go to Setup > Metric Details.
- Enter a Code, Description, Metric Unit, and whether it is periodic. The Metric Unit you set up in the previous step will be available for selection here. Non-periodic metrics could be a Floor/Department area that doesn’t change regularly.
- Click Save. Edit will be available to update any details. The Delete icon will be available for unused codes only.
Step Three: Metric Mapping
Next tailor the data you want to display in your industry specific dashboard.
- Go to Setup > Metric Mapping.
- Enter a unique Code and a Description.
- For Type, select either Category, Sub-Category, GL Account, or BI Code. Then select as many Values for that Type as needed. For example, a SAAS Dashboards could map the Subcategories used for Marketing Costs, such as “Social Media Spend” and the GL account to pull the MRR value.
- Click Save. Edit will be available to update any details. The Delete icon will be available for unused codes only.
Non Financial Metrics Maintenance
Next add values for your non financial metrics using an import template. These values can then be updated or checked via a maintenance screen.
Go to GL > Non Financial Metrics Maintenance.
Step One: Download Non Financial Metrics Template
- Go to GL > Download Metric Template.
- Select the relevant Financial Year and whether the Existing Values should be Budget, Revised Budget, or Actual.
- Click Download and open the template. The Template will be pre-populated based on current data held in the system if available. If no data is currently held in the system, the template will be blank.
- Populate the template with data for the financial year. Refer to the Completion Guide below for more details (This information is also available in the Metric Template's Guide worksheet). Metrics can be added by BI Code, Customer, Supplier, Item and GL Account. It is possible to add a Budget by Customer, Supplier or Item to AIQ if required. In this example, the CSAT score mapped to BI Code BO-DUB was 95 for Period 1 of 2018:
Completion Guide
Prerequisite
- Ensure all setup is in place in AIQ - All Metric Codes and required Metric Unit Types have already been set up.
Guidelines for Adding and Deleting Values and Rows
- Uploaded values will overwrite any values already in AIQ.
- If you have a cell populated with Zero, it will effectively erase the metric values and replace any existing values for that Metric Code with Zeros.
- If you delete a line that currently has values, this will not delete the values in AIQ - you will need to set the vales to zero and import to nullify any values already in AIQ.
- To add new rows - select a row you want to base it on (eg: same Metric), Copy the Row then Paste the Row where you want it and change the Metric Code/BI Code.
- Where you have copied rows be careful to update either the Metric or BI code as duplicates will be rejected.
Guidelines for Specific Fields
- All black text, such as the Metric Name or the BI Code Name, are shown for informational purposes only. You do not need to populate these if you are adding new lines. These names will not be validated on import. All text in blue is considered import data and will be validated on import
- Update the Financial Year, Dataset and Entity ID as required.
- Complete the required values against each Metric Code. The Metric Code is mandatory but BI Code, Customer, Supplier, Item and GL Accounts are all optional fields.
- For Metric Codes set as Non Periodic, a value only needs to be entered in the 'Non Periodic' Column.
- For ‘Periodic’ Metrics, values can be entered for each period.
- To add a new Metric for a Set of BI Codes - Filter for a Metric you wish to copy, select those rows and paste them at the end of the rows and change the Metric/ BI Code for all the inserted rows. Alternatively, insert a number of lines and copy in the rows you wish.
- When complete Check that the Financial Year and dataset you wish to apply are correct.
Step Two: Upload Non Financial Metrics Template
- Go to GL > Upload Metric Template.
- Browse to the file and click Import.
- The system validates the uploaded data. If valid, you will receive a confirmation message, and the data will overwrite any existing values. If invalid, the system displays an error message with details.
Metric Review and Maintenance
Review your import here and make any required changes without going through the import process.
- Go to GL > Metric Review and Maintenance.
- Select the Year, Metric, Department, and Metric Unit. In this example we can see the 95% CSAT score for January 2018 that we uploaded in the template in the previous step.
For non periodic metrics, only the overall financial year figure will appear: - Edit the Actual, Budget, and Revised Budget fields as needed and click Update. Budget and Revised Budget will be visible when you export the template for Budget or Revised Budget values.
Reports and Dashboards using Non Financial Metrics
The Non Financial Metrics module comes with standard reports and dashboards. However, to get the most out of your KPI data, the Reporting Services Team can build bespoke options. If you are interested, a request form is available via the Help Hub or via this link [link].
